"After Dark #3"

This site is dedicated to showing some of our "off hours" excursions during the third test run at BESSY.

Hotel. Again, we stayed at the Steglitz International hotel in Berlin. "Steglitz net site"

Dining.

Sights.

Polish Border. We drove east after work to arrive at the border between Germany and Poland.  The town of Frankfurt (Oder), Germany is only about 60 km east of Berlin. The river Oder can be crossed at this point to enter the town of Subicle, Poland.

Coswig, Germany. While driving south from Berlin, we followed the back roads as usual. This particular road became very small, was made of cobblestone, wide enough for 1 1/2 cars and was stopped by the Anhalt river just south of Coswig. As we approached the river, we thought we had taken a wrong turn but when a gentleman came out of the house boardering the river and approached the car, I decided to ask directions.  He motioned me towards the river, at which point I noticed a small ferry and told me (in German ... he spoke no english) that it would be DM5.00 to cross the river with the car and three passengers.  Fair enough, we gave it a go.

Colditz. The town of Colditz is situated between Dresden and Leipzig, Germany. Near the center of town is the 950 year old castle of Colditz which, as part of its rich history, was used as a prisoner of war camp during WWII by the Germans. Almost all prisoners were officers with at least one record of attempted escape. One of the most famous was Giles Romilly, a nephew of Winston Churchill
